REMEMBERING KURT COBAIN - HE SMELT LIKE TROUBLED SPIRIT.
"Load up on guns, bring your friends, It's fun to lose and to pretend".
Kurt Donald Cobain (Feb 20, 1967- April 5, 1994) a quintessentially young, gifted musician and the lead singer/guitarist/songwriter from the infamous seminal grunge rock band “Nirvana” stood on all the groundbreaking levels of popularity and fanbase. Loved and inspired by the singer to all, Kurt’s death took a massive toll and came across a shattering and catastrophic hit for many on the day of Tuesday April 5th, 1994, in Seattle, Washington. The day to remember a young 27-year-old hasty troubled soul we lost. Kurt wasn’t the ordinary teenager we knew, a dynamic and bright youth soon to be followed by the episodes of a dark cloud and depression. Kurt’s parents divorce got him into a turmoil of events and paralyses in life. Moving to various places at the age of 16 to finding consolation in drugs, he found solace in the notion of death and far wide. Angst, emo, drugs and despondency were his friends only to hit him up with all of it at a later point of life and huge stardom. Somewhere along the way, Kurt found his inner strength and passion to write songs. Being the genius that he was while writing the lyrics that showed the reflective and creative minded side of him, Kurt never stopped. He channeled all his tainted emotions into the songs that he wrote. On the side note Kurt was also considered to be far more rebellious than the most teenagers out there. With no appropriate household, he slept under bridges, lived out his days doing all kinds of drugs that you could ever think of. Around 1980’s the era of music influence Kurt’s then debut of rockstar idol began by singing for the Band “Melvins”. Without any accessibilities or privileges that Kurt had, he was self-made and artistic which opened the door for him. Thanks to his active participation in Melvins which later caught the attention of a local bassist and then-now famous Krist Novoselic. The duo went onto form the famous, well-liked and the coolest band of all time “Nirvana”. Kurt Cobain bespectacled his fans including myself with his immense imagination and eloquence to his songs. The trio of the band Kurt Cobain (the singer and the guitarist), Dave Grohl (the drummer) and Krist Novoselic (the bassist) went onto great lengths to acquire stardom and the longing fame of music industry. Nirvana’s populous and hit albums were Nevermind (1991), In-Utero (1993), Bleach and so much more which became fan favorites. The fandom stirred up crazy and going beyond the point. Nirvana had successfully gained a huge following all across the globe and it still remains the same even after 29 years. Cobain himself wasn’t considered to be an enthusiast of all the spotlight and attention he received. He found himself to be held captive and stranded in the place of drugs and mania. His addiction to drugs became monstrous and vile day by day which couldn’t contain his struggles and depression. “Drugs are a waste of time, they destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along your way” Cobain quotes as he knew he had drawn the final line and couldn’t retreat back to any possible ways. Drugs and Alcohol consumed his energy and ecstasy. Heroin and Marijuana snapped away his life. The Kurt Cobain diminished along with his happiness and the will to live. Cobain also a father to now a 30-year-old woman Frances Bean Cobain where he passed away regretful by not containing or curbing towards his unhinged addiction. Cobain didn’t find a purpose in life; he smelt like troubled spirit. Kurt Cobain also died as a willful feminist and will always be remembered for his actions and standing up for women. Kurt Cobain’s downward spiral came to an end when he took his life on April 5th 1994 in his cabin. The world came down to a shock. Nirvana was finally disbanded in the year 1994 shortly after his death. Grunge music came to an end. To end the piece, to all the people who claim that “Nirvana” is overrated, listen to more than “Smells like teen spirit”.
